The doors are now officially open at Brighton Place – our new £4.4m development of affordable housing for over 55s in Washingborough.
Sandra Hine, daughter of the late North Kesteven District Council Leader Cllr Marion Brighton OBE, and a group of seven pupils from Washingborough Academy formally unveiled a plaque during our opening ceremony on Wednesday 11th September.
Brighton Place is located on Marion Close and was named by the school children in memory of Cllr Marion Brighton OBE.
The development features 26 two-bedroom apartments for rent and eight two-bedroom bungalows available to buy on a shared ownership basis and is the second of our three new developments to be completed in 2019.
The event was a resounding success and the sun shone for LACE Housing residents, local organisations and partners – a stark contrast from the washout we experienced during the official turf cutting ceremony 16 months beforehand!
With an ever-increasing ageing population, it is essential that we do all we can to embrace the challenge of providing much-needed homes that are affordable and designed to support independent living.
Built by local building contractor, Lindum Construction, the energy-efficient homes are of a high quality and enable people to remain within the community they already know and love as they get older.
Our homes are designed to respond to the needs of residents, not just now but well into the future – offering enhanced services to facilitate independent living at a time when frailty and disability threaten to take that away.
In the same building as the 26 two-bedroom self-contained apartments, we’ve provided a fully furnished communal lounge and kitchen, plus communal seating areas throughout to encourage interaction between residents, with the goal of preventing loneliness and isolation.
All bases have been covered to equip residents with the appropriate facilities at Brighton Place, including a mobility scooter storage room with charging facilities and landscaped gardens incorporating bird boxes and hedgehog houses.
We’ve invited pupils from Washingborough Academy back to Brighton Place to plant the raised beds in the garden and their school work will be showcased on a dedicated display board.
Brighton Place was made possible thanks to a £1.6m grant from the Government’s Homes England as part of its Shared Ownership and Affordable Homes programme and is part of the 82 new Lincolnshire homes we are developing in 2019.

All 26 apartments at Brighton Place have now been allocated but there are still a number of the bungalows available – each of which includes its own garden.
