Our values in practice

Setting culture and leading by example

Lace is a values-led organisation. Our Board plays a key role in setting culture, modelling behaviour and ensuring our values are lived through strategy, policy and decision-making.

Board members are expected to act with kindness, integrity and openness; to keep people safe; to work collaboratively; and to support a culture of learning and improvement.

Making a difference at a strategic level

What Board membership involves

Lace Board members provide strategic leadership, oversight and constructive challenge — helping ensure we remain well-governed, financially strong and focused on residents.

Board members do not manage day-to-day operations. Instead, they work collectively to set direction, oversee performance and hold the executive team to account.

In practice, this means Board members commit time, insight and independent judgement to the following core responsibilities:

  • Strategic decision-making and oversight.

  • Attendance at Board and committee meetings.

  • Preparation, reading and informed challenge.

  • Acting as an ambassador for Lace when appropriate.
