Day 5 - Cleveland way

A delayed start as a result of the high tide meant that we could not get underway until 9.45am. We welcomed a drop in wind and the warm sunshine, although we faced showers from lunchtime. Having left Runswick Bay, we made our way to Sandsend, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. The trek took much longer than expected due to muddy conditions which meant that great care was taken in order to prevent any further falls! Clearly the winter has been very wet in the area. Whitby was extremely busy as we made our way through the town and up the 199 steps. Everyone are tired and feet, ankles and legs are increasingly tired and sore. Compede plasters and cream are the order of the day in order to keep pain at bay. Moral is good, particularly when a couple staying at the same guest house donated on behalf of the Rotary near Barnsley. Now in Robin Hoods Bay we are preparing for an early night and start in the morning as we make our way to Scarborough via Ravenscar and Cloughton. Tonight we look forward to being joined by staff from Brick Kiln Place.
