It’s hard to believe that I’ve been a part of the LACE Housing family since 1994. I initially began volunteering at Ruckland Court Care Home which was run by LACE Housing until 2015. I helped out for a couple of hours a week but quickly found myself employed part-time as one of the maintenance team.
Twenty-three years later and I’m now the full-time Maintenance Supervisor for all 10 of the LACE Housing sites. From our central office in Lincoln to Grantham and Bourne in the south, my jobs list varies from day to day throughout the year.
Fortunately, I’m supported by a maintenance assistant, a gardener and a troupe of friendly professional partners, so that when one of my residents puts in a call they can rely on us to replace a lightbulb or investigate a boiler that’s playing up as quickly as possible.
Working at LACE Housing is like becoming part of a family; everyone is here to make sure our residents live happily in high-quality, clean and attractive surroundings and nothing is ever too much trouble.
It’s nice to know that you’ve made a difference to someone’s day, especially if they’ve got a problem that you can resolve. I’m often on call over Christmas and one year a resident’s TV stopped working properly so I jumped in the van and drove over to help her.
Within an hour we had it up and running again, but it was the friendly chat as I was working that sums up why I love my job.
