What a contrast, Tuesday began overcast but followed with sunny spells. Low cloud over the mountains determined our route which started with a rocky path along the edge of Ennerdale Lake.
Much of the path had been washed away from the amount of water making its way down the mountain side, which proved challenging at times. Cutting across grassed land, the team joined a track passing the Ennerdale YHA, one of many youth hostels seen during the day, before being faced with a tricky crossing across a river and the steepest climb to be experienced throughout the Coast to Coast.
Now over 500 metres above sea level, the views were breath taking, but little time to take it in as we made away across the mountains via Honiston Mine to Stonethwaite.
An increase in the use of vaseline, muscle rub and ibuprofen is becoming order of the day as everyone overcomes sore, aching and tired muscles. All making their way to bed at nine o'clock before a further long day on Wednesday.
Finally, apologies to anyone in the camouflaged tent situated behind the Black Sale Youth Hostel. In the absence of WC facilities, desperate times call for desperate measures and members of the team had already committed themselves before the tent was noticed. Their fear being that it was secret filming wild life for the One Show!
