Residents and staff from Olsen Court and LACE House held a special coffee morning to celebrate their hard work throughout the year, raising money for their chosen charities Kids and P3 Lincolnshire.
Our Chief Executive, Nick Chambers, was moved by the stories of people he met when accompanying an overnight audit with P3 Lincolnshire in 2018. The charity, which supports rough sleepers, combats social exclusion and allows vulnerable people to feel connected with their communities, was subsequently chosen by staff at LACE House, our head office in Lincoln, as their chosen charity for 2019.
Our team at LACE House raised a total of £230 for P3 through various activities such as holding a sweepstake on the Grand National, a dress down day, wearing odd shoes around the office, and a raffle.
In addition to the money raised by LACE House, Worth Court, our extra care scheme in Bourne, have raised a further £191 for P3 Lincolnshire throughout the year, taking our total for the charity to an impressive £421.
Meanwhile, residents, volunteers and staff at Olsen Court, our extra care scheme in Lincoln, raised an incredible £1,576 for their chosen charity Kids.
Kids provides support services to disabled children, young people and their families, with the goal of giving disabled children a brighter future and improving their lives.
Disabled children and their families can have access to adventure playgrounds, holiday accommodation, after-school clubs, play schemes and more, allowing the family to have fun and spend time together.
As part of their fundraising efforts, residents, volunteers and staff from Olsen Court organised a family fun day, complete with games and stalls including glitter tattoos and tombola.
Support Co-ordinator Natasha Smith also cut 9.5 inches off her hair to donate to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs to children and young people with hair loss, all while collecting donations for Kids.
During the coffee morning we welcomed Phil Greenwood, Community Fundraiser for Kids, and Jonny Goldsmith from P3 to our official cheque presentation.
Phil said: “It really is a fantastic amount of money Olsen Court has raised. It will help to pay for 21 children to go on a full-day activity break, or could fund 25 places in after-school clubs or 150 hours of one-to-one social exclusion support.”
Jonny said of the support P3 has received: “I want to thank Nick Chambers for taking the time to find out more about what we do and I want to give thanks to his team as a whole for what they’ve done for us. It’s a big amount of money that we’ll be able to do an awful lot with.”
Nick said: “We’re always thinking about how to engage with and support other good causes – so we decided in our 20th year of fundraising to enable every scheme to choose its own charity to support.
“We decided to have presentations at each of the schemes as an opportunity to celebrate the incredible fundraising that has been going on this year.”
Residents, volunteers and staff at Brick Kiln Place, our Grantham extra care scheme, have also been busy raising money for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice throughout 2019. They welcomed Paisley, a representative from St Barnabas on Wednesday 13th November and presented her with a cheque for the sum of £1,625.82.
The money raised will go to the St Barnabas day centre on Barrowby Road in Grantham. Brick Kiln Place held various activities throughout the year, including raffles, pyjama parties, themed meals and afternoon tea to name but a few.
As an organisation we have also donated £500 to North Hykeham day centre to ensure the continued running of their ambulance – a vehicle which is vital for transporting people to its day centre. We would like to thank all our residents, volunteers and staff for raising over £4,100 for four very worthy charities – all of which provide a vital service within our community.
