Accessibility at Our Holiday Apartment

As you may already know, we opened our very first holiday accommodation in September 2017, as part of our Chapman Court development in Skegness.

The self-contained one-bedroom apartment is designed for over 55s looking to escape to the Lincolnshire coast – for the first time, or because it holds a special place in their hearts.

Within just a few months of opening it was shortlisted for an award and, more recently, received a four-star rating from Visit England, which we couldn’t be happier about.

The idea for having some LACE Housing holiday accommodation was brought to life after a consultation with our residents, which shows just how keen we are to take feedback on board.

Therefore, following the Visit England assessment we made sure that as many of the suggested improvements we could make were implemented as quickly as possible.

Similarly, we have listened to comments made by those who have stayed at the apartment, which have helped make it even better.

Although it is designed for holidaymakers who are independent, we did ensure that an accessibility guide was drawn up for those whose mobility is more limited than others. This is available to view and download on our website.

However, it was since brought to our attention that there were more ways in which we could improve a stay for someone with mobility issues.

In response, we have installed an additional grab rail in the shower and have purchased a free-standing frame for the toilet, which can be used at the request of the guest(s).

We’re pleased with how successful a venture our holiday accommodation has been so far and will always try to action requests wherever possible.
